Catch 22

Ok so for this documentary Duygu and I are helping a homeless man get back on his feet. We are running into so many setbacks while trying to attain housing and proper documents for him to be apart of society again. We sent off forms requesting documents that prove his existence. However they want us to provide a current address for him, but he's HOMELESS! So he does not have a current address. Thats why its catch 22, he needs an address to get an address. All these run arounds and glitches in the system we are getting makes for a good film but it just won't have the happy ending we intended.
To be continued...

Reflection: Semester Coming to an End

So many ideas built up as this class went on but unfortunately I wasn't able to execute any of them. I'm happy with the piece we did for Doc Challenge and I'm okay with following up on it for the final but I wish I was able to work with the other subjects i had in mine.

Assignment Update: Digital Postcard

Inspiration truly does come from everywhere. I'm editing together 3 interviews that I shot for the digital postcard of Tokyo. Before getting these interviews, I didn't think about interviewing people I know. I was all about approaching randoms on the street. I happened to be at a bar with a couple of my peers and we started talking about Tokyo. Then it hit me. I could just record them as they talked about their experiences in Tokyo. It was the perfect opportunity because I had the equipment on me and no one was around but us. I got more than what I expected. So now I just have to put the final touches on the short video. So check back in a few days to view the final video.

3 Day Observation

I originally chose to observe a shrine in Ontakesan, however once my observation began my attention was drawn not only to the shrine itself but the people that walk by it every morning. My observation started on Wednesday at approximately 9 am and continued for the next 2 days around the same time. The first day I just stood there and watched all the activity and traffic go on.

Day 2 I returned to the same spot and noted the things I observed. Most of it was a repeat of what I had seen the day before. Parents walking their children to school, mostly moms. Or riding them on bikes. The children all wore little green and navy plaid backpacks. Some of them seem to be in a hurry while others were not. So it was hard to tell what time school started. The traffic consisted of loading trucks and bikes. The street isn't really defined in my opinion in this neighborhood. So it was interesting to see how the bikes and vehicles maneuvered around the small corner avoiding pedestrians and other traffic. For the most part I was invisible, although the children noticed me and would stare. I only seen one person go to the shrine and a guy came and took a photo in it.

Day three involved the same occurrences. During my observation I noticed that some moms and their children would stop to read this bulletin as if it has some significance. So I decided to take a look myself which is what I am doing in the above photograph.
